Power Window Master Control Switch
This cabin control unit is the driverโs main command for all electric windows. It is needed to give fast, safe one-touch style operation from the door armrest, so the driver can lock out passenger switches and control every glass panel without taking eyes off the road. ๐โก
How it works
Inside the housing are multiple contact plates and small springs. When you press a button, the switch sends a low-current signal (or direct current on older systems) to the window motor circuit, reversing polarity to move the glass up or down. Many versions also include an โAUTOโ detent and a window lock button to disable rear/passenger controls.
Why replacement matters
A worn or burned contact can cause high resistance, heat, and unstable motor feed. The result is slow windows, intermittent operation, or a window that only works from one door. In some cases the window may stop mid-travel or keep moving until you release the switch.
Common symptoms of failure
- Window works sometimes, especially in cold or humid weather
- Driver switch works but passenger switch does not (or vice versa)
- Auto function or lock button not responding
- Clicking feel is weak, sticky, or inconsistent
