Transmission Range/Selector Switch ⚙️
Why you need it ?
This OE-grade gear position sensor tells the engine and transmission computers exactly which gear you’ve selected (P–R–N–D). It enables safe starting in Park/Neutral, turns on reverse lamps, and lets the automatic gearbox manage pressure and shift timing for smooth drive and better fuel economy.
How it works ?️
Bolted to the shift shaft on the transmission, it uses a multi-track contact array (or Hall sensors) to output unique signals for each lever position. The TCM/ECU reads these voltage codes, validates selector alignment, commands shift lock, and authorizes starter operation only in Park/Neutral. A sealed housing and tight connector keep out water, dust, and road salt.
What happens if it’s faulty ⚠️
Hard or no start unless you wiggle the lever, incorrect PRND display, harsh or delayed shifts, unexpected limp mode, inoperative reverse lights, stored DTCs (e.g., P0705/P0706), and higher fuel use. Continued driving can stress clutches and shorten transmission life.
Install & setup ✅
Set the lever to Park, align the index marks, torque to spec, then fine-adjust so the engine cranks only in P/N and reverse lamps light only in R. Inspect the harness, clean pins, and apply dielectric grease for long-term reliability.
