Why you need it
Without a healthy control switch, the HVAC cannot balance cooling and protection. It ensures cold air on hot days, stops evaporator freeze, and avoids high-pressure stress in the refrigerant loop. Result: reliable chill, quiet operation, and parts that last.
How it works ⚙️
The unit reads evaporator temperature/pressure via its sensor circuit and signals the A/C amplifier. When conditions are right, it energizes the magnetic clutch to spin the compressor. If the coil pack, thermistor, or contact set detects icing or excessive pressure, it opens the circuit to protect the system.
When it fails
Common signs: warm air, compressor short-cycling, no clutch engagement, intermittent cooling, or frost on vents. Prolonged faults can overheat the compressor, burst hoses, or freeze the evaporator core, leading to costly repairs.
