Brake Pedal Stop-Light Switch Assembly

This small switch is a big safety part. It tells the car when you press the brake pedal, so the rear brake lamps turn on and other systems get the correct “brake applied” signal ✅. It is needed for safe driving, legal road use, and stable operation of modern electronics like cruise control and shift interlock.

How It Works

The unit mounts at the brake pedal bracket. When the pedal is released, the plunger is held in a set position. The moment you press the pedal, the plunger movement changes the internal contacts, sending power to the stop lamps and a signal to the ECU/ABS as required. Correct adjustment is critical for proper lamp timing and pedal free-play.

What Happens If It Fails

  • Brake lights stay OFF (dangerous, high risk of rear-end impact) ⚠️
  • Brake lights stay ON (battery drain, warning from other drivers)
  • Cruise control won’t set or cancels randomly
  • Automatic gear selector may not shift out of Park
  • ABS/traction or check lights may appear on some trims

Why Replace It

Worn contacts, heat, vibration, or a cracked plunger can cause intermittent faults. Replacing the switch restores reliable brake lamp operation and correct pedal signal behavior.
