Steering Wheel Spiral Cable Set (Clock Spring) ?
This steering column spiral cable set is needed to keep electrical signals flowing between the fixed steering column and the turning steering wheel. It allows the airbag, horn, and steering wheel buttons to work while you turn lock to lock. Inside, a flat ribbon cable is wound in a spiral housing, expanding and retracting smoothly with steering movement.
How It Works ⚙️
As the wheel rotates, the internal ribbon cable winds/unwinds without stretching or breaking. This keeps constant contact for safety and comfort circuits, especially the SRS airbag system.
Signs of Failure & What Happens If Broken ?
When damaged, you may get an airbag warning light, horn failure, cruise/audio button issues, or clicking noises while turning. If the ribbon snaps, the driver airbag circuit can go open, meaning the airbag may not deploy when needed—serious safety risk. Replacing the spiral cable restores stable steering-wheel electrics and prevents intermittent faults.
