Steering Wheel Clock Spring for Toyota ?
Why this part is needed
This spiral cable (often called a clock spring) keeps constant electrical contact between the steering wheel and the car body. It carries signals for the airbag, horn, radio switches, and cruise control while you turn the wheel. Without it, your SRS system may be disabled and wheel buttons stop working. An OE-spec unit restores safety, comfort, and clean signal transfer.
How it works
Inside the housing is a flat ribbon harness coiled like a spring. As you rotate the wheel, the ribbon winds and unwinds, maintaining continuity to the driver airbag and controls. Quality contacts, precise winding limits, and molded guides prevent pinching and noise. Correct center alignment ensures equal travel left and right for long life ?.
What happens if it’s broken
SRS light on, horn dead, radio/cruise buttons intermittent, and possible airbag fault code. In severe cases, the airbag won’t deploy, which is a major safety risk. A damaged ribbon can also short, causing warning chimes and stored DTCs.
Install tips
Disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes, center the wheels, lock the clock spring at neutral, avoid spinning the hub, then calibrate steering angle if required ?.
