Front Door Courtesy Light Switch for Toyota

This small switch sits in the door jamb and tells the body ECU when a door is open. It turns on the dome/map lights, shows the door-ajar icon, and can trigger chimes and security functions. You need it for safe night entry, clear cabin visibility, and to avoid accidental battery drain. A healthy switch keeps your interior lighting smart and reliable. ✅

How it works

A spring-loaded plunger moves when the door opens and closes. When the door opens, the plunger extends, closing the circuit to ground; the ECU sees the signal and powers the courtesy lamp. Close the door and the plunger is pressed in, opening the circuit so the lights switch off with a gentle fade. Simple, durable, and fast to replace.

What happens if it fails ⚠️

Common faults are corroded contacts, stuck plunger, broken boot, or loose ground. Symptoms include: lights staying on (battery drain), lights never turning on (dark cabin), door-ajar warning stuck, alarm false triggers, and missing buzzer for keys or headlights. If you notice any of these, replace the switch and clean the mounting surface.

Tech notes ️

Located on the A-pillar/door frame. Usually one screw/bolt; unplug connector, swap, and add dielectric grease to seal. Test by hand: press the plunger—light should toggle instantly.
