Reverse Light & Backup Signal Switch Assembly π§
This small but critical switch is needed to tell the vehicle when the gear selector is placed into Reverse. Once it senses reverse position, it completes an electrical circuit so the reverse lights turn on and the backup signal is sent to related systems. Itβs a simple part, but it protects people and property by improving rear visibility and warning others behind you.
How It Works βοΈ
Inside the switch are contact points that open and close based on gear movement. When Reverse is selected, the contacts close, allowing current to flow to the reverse lamp circuit. Depending on the setup, it may also provide a reverse-input signal for parking aids, camera trigger, or transmission logic.
What Happens If It Fails π«
A worn or damaged switch may cause no reverse lights, intermittent lighting, or lights that stay on all the time. That can lead to failed inspection, unsafe reversing at night, and confusion for drivers behind you. In some cases, moisture or corrosion inside the connector can create erratic signals and repeated bulb checks.
