Back-up Light Switch for Confident Reversing

Why it is needed

This transmission-mounted reverse light switch powers the rear lamps the instant you select R. It warns traffic and pedestrians, improves night visibility, and can trigger reverse camera or parking sensors. Without it, reversing becomes unsafe and may fail road inspections.

How it works ⚙️

Inside the compact, sealed body is a spring-loaded plunger linked to the gearbox selector rail. Shift into reverse, the rail pushes the plunger, contacts close, and 12V flows to the back-up lamps. Shift out, the spring opens the circuit. A threaded metal housing with a sealing washer keeps gear oil inside, while a keyed connector locks in a clean electrical signal.

What happens if it’s broken ❗

Symptoms include no reverse lights, lights stuck on, flicker when the lever is moved, blown fuse, or oil seepage at the switch. Consequences: poor rear visibility, disabled camera/sensors, warning tickets, and safety risks in tight yards. If you must jiggle the shifter to light the lamps, the switch is near failure—replace promptly.
