Left Tailgate Lifter Assembly for Hyundai/Kia
This rear hatch support on the left side is needed to safely raise and hold your tailgate open. When the hatch is heavy, even a small loss of support can turn loading groceries or tools into a danger zone ⚠️. A healthy lifter keeps the tailgate stable and makes opening feel smooth and controlled.
How It Works
Inside the unit is a sealed gas/oil charge that creates lifting force. As you open the tailgate, the rod extends and supports the weight; when closing, it compresses and dampens movement, preventing sudden drops. The end joints allow clean pivoting without binding.
What Happens If It’s Worn or Broken
If the lifter weakens, the hatch may fall, won’t stay up, or needs two hands to operate. You may hear clunks, see uneven tailgate alignment, or notice the hatch “creeping” down over time. In worst cases, it can slam shut and cause injury or damage to hinges, glass, or trim .
