28 mm Axle Hub Lock Nut for Subaru driveline

This high‑strength lock nut secures the CV/stub shaft to the wheel hub, maintaining precise wheel bearing preload and stable braking/ABS geometry. Made from hardened steel with anti‑corrosion coating, it mirrors factory design and is intended for single use with a staked collar.

Why you need it ️

Correct clamping prevents hub play, heat buildup, and spline wear. Replacing the nut whenever the axle is serviced ensures safe torque retention and long bearing life, especially under AWD loads and aggressive driving.

How it works ⚙️

After torquing to the manufacturer specification, the outer edge is staked into the axle groove. This mechanical lock stops loosening from vibration, cornering forces, and thermal cycles, keeping the hub nut tight over time.

If the lock nut is damaged or not replaced ⚠️

  • Wheel bearing play, humming/growl, or ABS warning
  • Steering shimmy and uneven brake pad wear
  • Fretting on CV/hub splines and heat discoloration
  • Severe cases: hub wobble, rotor runout, even wheel off‑center risk

Install tips ✅

  • Always use a new nut; never re‑stake an old one.
  • Clean threads, lightly oil if required, torque to spec, then stake firmly.
  • Inspect dust cap and any retainer components; replace if bent.
