Precision A/C Expansion Control Valve ❄️

This air conditioning expansion control valve is a key metering part in the HVAC system. It is needed to regulate how much refrigerant enters the evaporator, so the cabin cools fast and stays stable in different weather and engine speeds. A correct flow rate also helps protect the compressor from stress and keeps vent temperature consistent.

How It Works

The valve creates a pressure drop between the high-pressure line and the low-pressure evaporator inlet. By precisely restricting flow, it turns liquid refrigerant into a low-pressure mist that can absorb heat inside the evaporator core. As temperatures and pressures change, the valve reacts to maintain efficient cooling and prevent evaporator icing.

When the Valve Fails

If it sticks open, the evaporator may flood, cooling becomes weak, and the compressor can run noisy or wear early. If it sticks closed or partially blocked, you may get warm air, fluctuating vent temps, low-side vacuum readings, and repeated cycling. Ignoring the issue can lead to compressor damage and contaminated refrigerant lines.

Common Symptoms

  • Uneven cooling / temperature swings
  • Frosting on lines or evaporator icing
  • Higher cabin humidity and slow pull-down
  • Compressor strain, noise, or rapid cycling
