Cabin Heater Core (HVAC Heat Exchanger)

This part is the heart of your cabin heating system. It is needed to move engine heat into the passenger compartment, giving warm air in cold weather and supporting fast windscreen defogging. When it works correctly, you get steady heat, clear glass, and comfortable driving.

How It Works βš™οΈ

Hot engine coolant flows through small internal tubes and fins. The blower fan pushes air across the fins, then that warmed air goes through the vents. Temperature is controlled by blend doors and HVAC settings, while coolant flow and engine temperature do the heating job.

Signs of Failure & What Happens If It Breaks

A damaged unit may leak coolant inside the dashboard area or become restricted by scale and deposits.

Common results include:

  • Sweet coolant smell inside the cabin
  • Foggy windows and greasy film on glass
  • Wet carpet on passenger side
  • Weak or no heat from vents
  • Coolant loss leading to engine overheating if ignored

Why Replacing It Matters βœ…

Fixing the heater heat exchanger restores proper cabin heat, improves defrost safety, and prevents ongoing coolant loss that can damage the engine. Use correct coolant mix and bleed air from the system after installation for best performance.
