How it works ❄️
Inside the housing is a wax-pellet valve. As coolant reaches its set point, the wax expands and lifts the valve, sending flow to the radiator. When cold, it stays shut and routes coolant through the bypass for quick warm-up. Result: steady ~90°C operation, consistent heater output, and protected turbo hardware.
Why you need it
A healthy thermostat keeps the ECU in the correct fuel and ignition maps, prevents oil dilution, and maintains cylinder sealing. It’s a small part with a big impact on reliability and fuel economy.
If it fails ⚠️
Stuck closed: fast overheating, boiling, possible head-gasket damage. Stuck open: slow warm-up, rich running, high fuel use, weak cabin heat. Erratic action: temp swings, fan cycling, rough drive. Replace at first signs.
