AC Refrigerant Metering Valve for Subaru ❄️
This air conditioning metering valve is a key part of the HVAC system. It is needed to control how much refrigerant enters the evaporator, so the cabin cools fast and stays stable in traffic or hot weather. Without correct metering, the system cannot balance pressure and temperature properly.
How it works 🔧
The valve senses pressure/temperature changes and precisely regulates refrigerant flow into the evaporator core. By creating the correct pressure drop, it allows the refrigerant to expand, absorb heat, and remove humidity from the air. This helps prevent evaporator freeze-up and protects the compressor from liquid slugging.
If the valve is failing or broken ⚠️
You may notice weak cooling, temperature swings, hissing noises, evaporator icing, or high/low side pressure readings out of range. A stuck-open valve can flood the evaporator and stress the compressor; a stuck-closed valve can starve the evaporator and cause poor cooling plus overheating compressor operation. Long-term driving like this can lead to costly compressor damage and contaminated refrigerant lines.
