Precision A/C Refrigerant Metering Valve ❄️
This HVAC metering valve is a key part of your car air conditioning system. It is needed to control how much refrigerant enters the evaporator, so the cabin cools fast and stays stable without icing up. When correctly metered, the evaporator can absorb heat efficiently, giving you colder vents and smoother compressor operation.
How It Works ⚙️
The valve responds to pressure and temperature changes in the A/C circuit. It “pins” the refrigerant flow to the right level, turning high-pressure liquid into a low-pressure mix before it reaches the evaporator. This keeps superheat in the safe zone, helps protect the compressor from liquid slugging, and improves fuel economy compared to an overworked system.
What Happens If It Fails ?
A sticking or leaking valve can cause weak cooling, fluctuating vent temperature, evaporator freeze-up, or abnormally high/low system pressures. You may notice the compressor cycling too often, unusual hissing, or the A/C blowing warm at idle. Long-term driving with a faulty metering valve can overheat the compressor and contaminate the system with debris—turning a small repair into a full A/C rebuild.
