Rear Door Lock Assembly for Toyota Van Tailgate πŸ”’

This rear back door latch unit is the part that keeps your tailgate securely shut while driving. It is needed to stop the door from popping open on bumps, protect cargo, and ensure the door lines up correctly with the striker. A healthy lock also helps your central locking system work smoothly and keeps the cabin quieter.

How It Works βš™οΈ

Inside the housing, a claw and pawl mechanism grabs the striker pin when you close the back door. The actuator/handle linkage then releases the claw when you unlock and pull the handle. Springs return the parts to position so the lock can re-latch every time without sticking.

Signs the Lock Is Failing 🚫

  • Back door won’t latch or needs slamming to close
  • Door opens unexpectedly or feels loose
  • Key/central locking works but the latch won’t release
  • Rattling from the tailgate area

Why Replace It βœ…

If the latch is worn, bent, or jammed with corrosion, the door can become unsafe, water and dust may enter, and the lock motor or handle cables can be overstressed. Replacing the assembly restores secure closing, proper alignment, and reliable locking.
