Rear Tailgate Lock Control Cable Assembly
This control cable is a key link between your rear door/tailgate handle and the lock latch. It is needed to make the back door open and lock with the right force and travel, even in cold weather, dust, or daily heavy use.
How it works ⚙️
When you pull the handle or activate the lock mechanism, the inner steel wire slides inside a protective outer sleeve. That motion transfers a clean pull to the latch lever, releasing or securing the tailgate. The sleeve keeps the movement smooth, reduces friction, and protects the wire from water and corrosion.
What happens if it’s broken
A stretched, frayed, or seized cable can cause a tailgate that won’t open, won’t lock, or needs extra force. You may notice a loose handle feel, delayed latch release, or the door staying partially latched. If the wire snaps, the tailgate can become stuck closed, and repeated pulling may damage the handle or latch.
