Why you need it ️
Without a healthy door check, the door can swing freely in wind or on slopes, slam unexpectedly, and stress the hinge pillars. Over time that leads to creaks, cracked welds, damaged weatherstrips, and chipped edges.
How it works ⚙️
A steel strap slides through a compact housing with detents and rollers. As you open the door, the detents “park” it at safe positions. The built-in spring force controls movement, while a sealed grease film keeps motion smooth and quiet.
If it’s worn or broken ⚠️
You may hear popping or grinding, the door won’t stay open, and it can overextend, hitting the fender or stressing the harness. In severe cases, the door may not check at all—creating a safety risk for occupants and nearby cars.
Install tips
Direct bolt-on to the A‑pillar and door shell. Use hand tools, support the door, align carefully, and apply light thread locker. Torque to spec and add a dab of high-temp grease to the strap.
