Defroster Damper Control Cable Assembly
βοΈ This control cable is a small but critical link between your dashboard HVAC lever/knob and the defroster damper inside the heater box. You need it to direct airflow to the windshield when fog, frost, or rain reduces visibility. A smooth, correctly adjusted cable keeps the cabin air routing accurate and responsive.
How It Works
When you move the defrost selector, the inner wire slides inside its sheath and pulls (or pushes) the damper arm. That damper door opens the defrost passage and closes other routes as needed, sending warm, dry air up to the glass. β Good cables hold their length, resist kinks, and keep the damper from drifting out of position.
What Happens If Itβs Worn or Broken
? A stretched, seized, or snapped cable can leave the damper stuck. Common signs include weak or no airflow to the windshield, selector feeling loose or very stiff, clicking behind the dash, or air coming from the wrong vents. In bad weather, poor defrost performance can quickly become a safety issue.
