Auxiliary Hood Safety Latch Hook for Toyota Truck/SUV οΈ
This secondary bonnet catch is the backup that keeps your hood secure if the main latch lets go. Built to OEM-style geometry with a smooth pivot, it locks the hood to the radiator support and prevents wind lift at speed. Itβs a small part that protects big parts β windshield, fenders, and your visibility.
Why this part is needed
It adds a critical layer of safety to the primary hood lock. Without a healthy auxiliary catch, the hood can shift, rattle, or in worst cases open while driving. It also helps the hood sit correctly for proper body panel alignment.
How it works
The spring-loaded hook engages the hood striker. Pull the cabin release and the main latch disengages, but this safety hook still holds the hood. You lift slightly and press the release tab to clear the hook, then open the hood fully.
What happens if itβs broken
Symptoms include hood bounce, a visible gap at the front edge, hard release, or a stuck hood. If the hook seizes or the spring weakens, the hood may not stay secured at highway speeds β risking sudden opening, paint damage, and glass impact. Replace at the first signs of rust, play, or sticking.
Tech notes
Direct-fit, reuse factory bolts, light grease on the pivot, and torque to spec. Quick install: about 10β15 minutes.
