Hood Pop‑Up Lifter Actuator Assembly ⚙️
This safety actuator is part of the pedestrian protection system. In a qualifying impact, it instantly raises the rear of the hood to create a soft gap, helping reduce injury risk ️. It also keeps hood alignment precise in normal driving, resisting vibration and corrosion for long service life.
Why you need it
After any deployment, this unit is single‑use and must be replaced. A faulty or corroded lifter will trigger warnings, disable the system, and can leave the hood misaligned or rattling. Restoring it brings back full safety function and proper bonnet fit.
How it works
Crash sensors send a signal to the control ECU, which energizes a pyrotechnic squib. Expanding gas drives a piston that lifts the hood by several centimeters in milliseconds. The sealed cylinder, shear mechanism, and bracket work together to raise and hold the panel. Electrical connectors are SRS‑grade; never probe them with a meter.
What happens if broken ❗
Signs include safety light on, DTCs, uneven hood gap, clunks near hinges, or a hood that won’t sit flush. In a real event, a failed actuator may not lift the hood, increasing injury risk. False deployment can bend hinges and fenders.
Fitting tips ⚡
Disconnect battery and wait 90+ seconds. Handle like an airbag. Replace in pairs, torque to spec, check harness and grounds, then perform system calibration/zero‑point reset with a scan tool. Use OE‑grade fasteners for secure mounting.
