Electric Steering Column Telescope Motor Assembly ?
This electric motor unit adjusts the steering column in and out to match the driver’s best position. It is needed for comfort, safe reach to the wheel, and correct airbag-to-driver distance. On many modern Nissan setups, the telescope function is controlled by a switch and a small ECU signal, then the motor drives a gear set to slide the column smoothly.
How It Works ⚙️
When you press the adjust switch, the motor spins in one direction to extend the column and the opposite direction to retract it. Internal gears multiply torque, so the column moves steadily without jerks. Built-in stops help prevent over-travel and protect the column mechanism.
When It Fails ?
A worn motor, stripped gear, or weak internal contact can cause no movement, slow movement, clicking noises, or a stuck steering position. If ignored, the column may lock in an awkward reach, strain the column rails, and trigger comfort/adjustment warning messages. In severe cases, repeated forcing can damage the adjuster mechanism and wiring.
