Front Suspension Strut Top Bearing ?️
This suspension bearing sits at the top of the strut assembly and is essential for smooth steering and stable ride height. It supports the strut while allowing the spring and strut to rotate as you turn the steering wheel. Without this small but critical part, even a well-built suspension can feel rough, noisy, and inaccurate.
Why This Part Is Needed
Every time you steer, the strut must pivot under vehicle weight. This bearing reduces friction between the strut mount and the rotating strut/spring seat. It keeps steering effort low, helps the alignment stay consistent, and prevents the spring from “winding up” and releasing with a snap.
How It Works
Inside the mount area, the bearing provides a smooth rolling surface. As the wheel turns left or right, the strut rotates cleanly instead of dragging metal-on-rubber. This improves steering return-to-center and cuts vibration transfer into the body.
What Happens If It’s Worn or Broken ⚠️
- Clunking or popping noise when turning
- Heavy, jerky steering feel
- Steering that doesn’t self-center properly
- Uneven tire wear from unstable alignment angles
- Premature wear of strut mounts and springs
