Rear Axle Load‑Sensing Brake Spring Assembly
Why your 4x4 needs it
This OE‑quality spring links the rear axle to the brake load‑sensing valve, letting the system “feel” how much weight the vehicle carries. By matching rear brake pressure to actual load, it keeps stops short and straight, reduces nose‑dive, and prevents premature rear wheel lock. Ideal for daily roads, towing, and off‑road use .
How it works
The axle moves with cargo and terrain. A lever on the proportioning valve tracks that movement. The spring provides a calibrated reference force, so the valve opens just enough to control rear line pressure. Light vehicle = lower rear pressure; heavy load = higher rear pressure. Result: balanced braking, stable control, and even pad/shoe wear .
If the spring fails ⚠️
Broken, stretched, or corroded spring = wrong brake bias. Symptoms include rear lock‑up when unladen, long stopping distances when loaded, unstable panic stops, early ABS intervention, and uneven tire/brake wear. Off‑road, it can increase skids on loose surfaces and reduce confidence when descending.
Tech notes and fitment tips ✅
Inspect hooks and coils for rust pitting or loss of tension. Replace in pairs when possible. Ensure lever pivots move freely; torque brackets to spec. After installation, set rod/lever height per factory marks at curb weight and road‑test. If the valve was opened, bleed the rear circuit.
