Load-Sensing Brake Proportioning Valve Assembly
This brake hydraulic valve is fitted to many Toyota trucks and SUVs to keep braking safe when the vehicle is empty or carrying heavy weight. It is needed because rear axle load changes the grip level; without control, the rear brakes can lock too early on a light load or feel weak when fully loaded.
How It Works
The unit uses a spring-and-plunger valve linked to the rear suspension. As the body height changes, the linkage moves the valve and adjusts hydraulic pressure to the rear brake circuit. More load = more rear brake pressure allowed; less load = pressure is reduced. This keeps the brake balance stable and improves stopping distance.
Symptoms If Itβs Broken
Common Problems
- β οΈ Rear wheels locking/skidding when braking lightly
- β οΈ Long stopping distance when carrying cargo
- β οΈ Uneven rear brake wear or overheating
- β οΈ Brake fluid seepage and soft pedal
β Replacing a faulty proportioning valve helps restore correct brake bias, predictable pedal feel, and safer braking in all load conditions.
