Rear Anti‑Skid Wheel Speed Sensor Assembly
This rear anti‑skid sensor is a key input for the ABS/traction control system. It is needed to measure rear wheel rotation so the ECU can prevent wheel lock during braking and reduce wheel spin on loose or wet roads.
How It Works ⚙️
The sensor reads the tone ring (reluctor) as the wheel turns and sends a pulse signal to the ABS module. When the module detects a wheel slowing too fast compared to the others, it commands the hydraulic unit to modulate brake pressure, keeping steering control and stability.
Signs of Failure & What Happens If It’s Broken ❗
If the sensor or its wiring is damaged, the ABS warning light may come on, ABS may deactivate, and braking can feel normal but with a higher risk of wheel lock in hard stops. You may also notice traction control dropouts, erratic ABS activation, or stored fault codes. Long term, uneven braking events can increase tire wear and stress other ABS components.
