Rear Right ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (for Mitsubishi)

This rear right wheel speed pickup is a key part of the ABS braking system. It’s needed to keep the vehicle stable during hard braking and on wet or dusty roads. When the control unit knows exactly how fast the wheel is turning, it can prevent lock-up and help you steer while braking ??.

How It Works

The sensor sits near a toothed tone ring (or magnetic encoder) on the hub. As the wheel rotates, it creates a signal (pulse) that is sent to the ABS module. The module compares all wheel signals and, if it detects a wheel slowing too fast, it briefly reduces brake pressure to that wheel, then reapplies it—many times per second.

When It’s Failing or Broken

A damaged sensor, rusted mounting, cut wiring, or metal debris on the tip can cause wrong readings. You may see the ABS light, lose ABS function, and sometimes traction/stability control is disabled. In some cases the brakes feel normal, but emergency braking becomes riskier and stopping distances can increase ⚠️.
