Front Brake Caliper Secondary Piston
This small but critical brake component sits inside the front disc brake caliper and turns hydraulic pressure into real stopping force. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid pressure pushes the piston outward, squeezing the brake pads against the rotor for smooth, controlled braking ✅.
Why this part is needed
The caliper needs a perfectly sealed, correctly sized piston to keep braking power even on both sides of the rotor. It also helps the pads retract slightly when you release the pedal, reducing drag and heat.
How it works
Pressure from the master cylinder enters the caliper, forcing the piston to slide forward in its bore. A square-cut seal flexes and then pulls the piston back a fraction, keeping pad-to-rotor clearance correct. Clean movement equals stable braking and straight stops ?️.
What happens if it’s worn or damaged
A sticking or pitted piston can cause uneven pad wear, pulling while braking, overheating, brake fade, and even fluid leaks. In severe cases the wheel may drag, fuel economy drops, and braking distance increases—never ignore these signs.
