Rear Right ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
This rear right wheel speed sensor is a key part of the ABS system. It is needed to measure how fast the wheel is turning and to help the car keep stable braking on wet, dusty, or uneven roads π.
How It Works
The sensor sits close to a toothed ring (tone ring) on the hub/axle. As the wheel rotates, it reads the passing teeth and sends a speed signal to the ABS control unit. If the unit detects a wheel slowing too fast (about to lock), it pulses brake pressure to that wheel to keep traction and steering control.
Why Replacing Matters
A weak or failed sensor can send wrong signals or no signal at all. This may switch on the ABS warning light, disable ABS operation, and cause longer stopping distance on slippery roads. In some cases you may feel pedal pulsation at the wrong time, or the brakes may grab during low-speed stops.
When the Part Is Broken
- ABS light stays on
- ABS stops assisting in emergency braking
- Unstable braking on rain or gravel
- Possible fault codes for rear right wheel speed
