Rear Right Drum Brake Shoe Adjuster
This small rear drum brake adjuster keeps the brake shoes at the correct distance from the drum so your pedal feels firm and braking stays even ✅. It is needed because drum brakes wear little by little; without automatic/periodic adjustment the shoes sit too far back and you lose bite.
How it works ?
The adjuster uses a threaded screw and star-wheel style mechanism to move the shoes outward as lining wear increases. Each time the brakes are applied (or during service adjustment), it compensates for clearance, helping the shoes contact the drum at the right moment and keeping parking brake travel correct.
When it fails ⚠️
If the adjuster is seized, stripped, or installed wrong, the drum brake won’t self-correct. You may notice a low pedal, longer stopping distance, pulling, overheated drum, weak handbrake, or scraping noises. In severe cases the shoes can drag, burning the linings and damaging the drum.
Recommended service ?️
Clean and lightly lubricate the threads with high-temp brake grease during brake service, and replace if the teeth or threads are worn.
