Steering Rack Boot (Rack Gaiter) – Protect Your Steering System

This flexible bellows seals the steering rack and inner tie rod, keeping grease in and dirt, water, and road salt out. A healthy boot prevents corrosion of the rack bar, protects the pinion seals, and keeps steering precise. Built to OE-style geometry for a snug seat on the rack housing and tie rod shaft, it restores factory protection without noise or binding.

Why you need it ️

Over time rubber hardens, cracks, or splits from heat and ozone. Once open, grit and moisture attack the rack teeth and seals. Replacing a torn boot is cheap insurance against a costly rack rebuild and keeps your power steering leak-free.

How it works βš™οΈ

The accordion design expands and compresses as the wheels steer. Secure clamps at both ends lock the boot in place. It retains lubricant on the inner joint while acting as a dust cover, balancing air volume so the bellows do not collapse or suck in debris.

What happens if it’s broken ⚠️

Grease flings out, the inner tie rod runs dry, and rust forms on the rack. You may feel notchiness or play, hear clunks, see wet fluid around the boot, and even get uneven tire wear. Long term, the pinion seal can fail, causing power steering leaks and inspection failures.

Mark toe, count tie-rod turns, slide off the old gaiter, inspect the inner joint and rack seal, lightly grease, fit the new boot, and secure with quality clamps. Align the wheels after any tie-rod work.
