Automatic Transmission Fluid Feed Hose (ATF Line) 🚗💧
This transmission fluid hose is a critical link between the gearbox and the ATF circuit (cooler/pipe routing). It’s needed to move pressurized fluid where it must go, keeping the automatic transmission lubricated, cooled, and able to build stable hydraulic pressure for smooth shifting.
How It Works
Inside the rubber body is a reinforced layer that holds pressure and resists heat. As the pump circulates ATF, this hose carries fluid without collapsing, even when the transmission is hot. Proper flow helps prevent clutch slip, valve body sticking, and overheating during traffic or long climbs.
When This Hose Fails
A cracked or swollen hose can leak ATF or suck air into the system. That often leads to delayed engagement, harsh shifts, shudder, or warning lights. If the leak gets worse, the transmission can run low on fluid and overheat—resulting in burnt ATF smell, internal clutch damage, and expensive rebuilds. Replacing a weak hose early is cheap insurance. 🔧
Common Signs You Need Replacement
- Wet ATF spots under the car
- ATF level dropping between services
- Soft hose feel, bulges, or surface cracks
- Overheating or shifting changes after warm-up
