Steering Idler Arm Assembly for tight, confident handling
This part supports the center link on the chassis side and keeps your steering line straight under load. On rough roads, towing, or daily use, the pivot and bushings wear. Replacing it restores factory steering feel, reduces free play, and protects tires and joints.
Why it’s needed
In a recirculating-ball setup, the pitman arm moves one side of the center link while this arm holds the other side at the correct height. That balance keeps toe and caster stable and prevents shimmy.
How it works
A forged arm is fixed to a bracket with a hardened pivot shaft. Inside are bushings or a bearing that let the arm swing smoothly. Bolted to the frame, it mirrors pitman arm geometry. A grease fitting (if equipped) keeps the pivot lubricated and sealed from dust.
If it’s worn or broken ⚠️
You’ll feel steering wander, clunks over bumps, off‑center wheel, vibration at speed, and uneven tire wear. Alignment won’t hold. Other parts (tie rods, center link) wear faster. In severe failure, steering control can be lost—unsafe.

Torque to spec with the vehicle at ride height. Set pivot preload per manual. Grease after install. Check pitman arm, center link, and tie rods. Finish with a proper alignment.
