Steering Pitman Arm Assembly for Tough 4x4 Duty
This steering link is the solid bridge between the steering gearbox and the center/drag link. It turns the gearbox’s rotational motion into side-to-side movement, pushing the linkage and turning the wheels. Built for heavy loads and off‑road use, it keeps steering tight, predictable, and safe.
Why this part is needed ️
Without a healthy pitman arm, steering feel gets loose. This assembly maintains correct geometry, quick response, and straight tracking under towing, hauling, and rough terrain.
How it works ⚙️
The arm splines onto the gearbox sector shaft, locked by a nut and index. Its tapered stud connects to the drag link. When you turn the wheel, the shaft rotates the arm, pushing/pulling the linkage. Quality forgings, heat treatment, and a greaseable joint resist play, rust, and impact.
What happens if it’s worn or broken ⚠️
Symptoms include steering play, wander, shimmy, clunks on bumps, uneven tire wear, and an off‑center wheel. Severe wear can cause loss of steering input to the wheels—dangerous at speed or off‑road.
Install tips
Match spline index, torque to spec, use a new cotter pin, and grease the joint. Finish with a wheel alignment to protect tires and restore straight‑line stability.
