Upper Radiator Inlet Coolant Hose
This coolant hose carries hot coolant between the radiator inlet and the engine cooling circuit. It is needed to keep coolant flowing at the right volume and pressure so the engine stays at a safe working temperature ?️. Made to handle heat, vibration, and coolant chemicals, it seals tightly on the necks with clamps to prevent leaks.
How It Works
When the water pump circulates coolant, this hose acts as a flexible bridge between fixed metal/plastic fittings. As the thermostat opens, coolant moves through the hose into the radiator where heat is released, then returns to the engine. Its reinforced rubber walls resist collapse under suction and swelling under heat cycles.
What Happens If It’s Broken
A cracked, soft, or bulging hose can leak or burst, causing rapid coolant loss. That leads to overheating, poor cabin heat, steam from the bay, and possible engine damage like warped cylinder heads or blown head gasket ?. Even small seepage can pull air into the system and create hot spots.
Common Signs to Replace
- Coolant smell or wet staining near hose ends
- Spongy feel, surface cracks, or ballooning
- Temperature rising in traffic or under load
