How it works π οΈ
A forged housing holds a greased ball-stud with a tapered pin that seats in the steering arm. The socket pivots smoothly, transferring pushβpull motion from the rack to the wheel while allowing suspension travel. Threaded adjustment sets toe; a lock nut secures it. The sealed boot retains grease and blocks water and grit.
What if it fails β οΈ
Worn play causes vague steering, pull, clunks over bumps, shimmy, and uneven tire wear. A torn boot leaks grease, leading to rust and seizure. In severe cases the stud can separate, causing sudden loss of steering control. Replace at first signs of looseness and align wheels after installation. π§π‘οΈ
