Left Steering Relay Rod End

Why this part is needed

This left-side relay rod end links the center/relay rod to the steering arms, keeping wheel toe steady and the wheel angle precise. On heavy 4x4 SUVs it carries high loads, removes play, and stops shimmy, so the truck tracks straight and your tires wear evenly.

How it works

A forged housing holds a hardened ball stud that pivots inside a low-friction seat. The tapered stud locks into the arm; the threaded side secures to the relay rod. The sealed boot keeps grease in and dust out, letting the joint articulate through bumps and turns while maintaining exact linkage length for crisp steering response.

What happens if it’s worn or broken ⚠️

Signs include clunking over bumps, steering wander, poor return-to-center, vibration, and feathered tire wear. Severe wear can flip toe out of spec and lengthen stopping distance. If it fails completely, steering control may be lost—park the vehicle and tow.

Tech and install notes

  • Match LH position; replace in pairs when play is found.
  • Torque to spec and fit a new cotter pin.
  • Use a puller, not a hammer, on the taper.
  • Grease if serviceable; then perform a wheel alignment.
  • Corrosion-resistant coat, nitrile boot, OE geometry.
