Vane-Type Power Steering Pump Assembly 🚙
This steering hydraulic pump is needed to create the oil pressure that helps you turn the wheel smoothly, especially during parking and low-speed driving. Without correct pressure, steering becomes heavy and slow, putting extra strain on the steering gear and belt drive.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the housing, a rotor with sliding vanes spins and traps hydraulic fluid in chambers. As the chambers change size, the pump builds pressure and sends it to the steering system. A built-in flow/pressure control keeps assist stable at different engine RPM, so the steering feel stays predictable.
Signs It’s Failing & What Happens If Broken ❗
If worn or damaged, it may whine, leak, or cause jerky assist. Air can enter the system, making foam in the reservoir and vibration in the wheel. Continued driving with a weak pump can overheat fluid, damage seals, and reduce steering control—steering may become very heavy suddenly.
