Why this part is needed
The steering rack must sit tight on the subframe to keep your wheel straight and response sharp. This bushing locks the rack in place and filters road shock and noise. With a healthy mount, the pinion stays aligned, steering effort stays even, and tires wear correctly. It’s a small part that protects feel, safety, and comfort.
How it works
An elastomer sleeve fits between the rack housing and its bracket. When you turn, it holds the rack from shifting, yet flexes to absorb vibration. Quality rubber or polyurethane resists oil, heat, and ozone. Correct hardness (durometer) keeps geometry true under load, towing, and off-road use.
What happens if it’s worn or broken ⚠️
Clunks over bumps, vague center, kickback in the wheel, wandering at speed, and uneven tire wear. The rack can move, changing toe under braking or cornering, which feels like instability. You may also hear squeaks and feel delay before the wheels react. Left alone, it can stress rack mounts and tie rods.
Pro install tips ?
Support the rack, mark position, press the bushing in with silicone-safe lube, never petroleum. Tighten bolts with a torque wrench to factory spec. Center the rack before tightening, then do a wheel alignment. Inspect tie rod ends and other rack mounts; replacing bushings in pairs is best. ✅
