This hub joins or disconnects the front wheels from the axle shafts, letting your Land Cruiser roll freely in 2WD and bite hard in 4WD. It reduces drag, noise, and fuel use on road, while giving full torque to the front end when you need traction off-road. Why this part is needed
When you select 4WD, the locking mechanism couples the wheel hub to the drive axle so power goes to the ground. In 2WD, it uncouples to protect CV joints and bearings, saving fuel and extending service life.
How it works ⚙️
A splined clutch sleeve, hub body, and cam/gear set engage together. Turning the dial or actuator slides the sleeve over the axle splines. Quality needle bearings support rotation; seals retain grease and keep contaminants out.
What happens if it’s broken
Symptoms include clicking, free-spinning front shafts, no 4WD engagement, water ingress, uneven tire wear, and higher fuel use. Stuck engaged causes vibration and CV wear; stuck free leaves you without front drive when it counts.
