This rear oil seal is a small but critical barrier that keeps gear oil where it belongs—inside the rear housing—while the axle or shaft spins at high speed. It is needed to stop lubricant loss, protect bearings, and keep dust, water, and road grit from entering the drivetrain.
How It Works ⚙️
The seal’s flexible lip rides on the rotating surface and maintains steady contact using its internal tension ring. As the shaft turns, the lip forms a thin oil film that reduces friction, while the outer body locks tightly into the housing to prevent seepage around the edges.
If the Seal Fails ?
A damaged seal can cause oil leaks, low gear oil level, and contaminated brakes or underbody. Over time, this leads to noisy bearings, overheating, vibration, and expensive differential or axle damage. If you notice wet spots, burning oil smell, or humming from the rear, replacement should not be delayed.
