Transmission Input Shaft for Hyundai/Kia βš™οΈ

This precision-machined gearbox input shaft is the core link between the clutch and the transmission on many Hyundai and Kia models. It is needed to transfer engine torque into the gearset, keep gears aligned on bearings, and support synchronizers for smooth shifting. A fresh input shaft restores quiet operation, protects bearings, and cures grinding caused by worn splines or bent journals.

How it works

The clutch disc splines lock onto the shaft. As you release the clutch, torque flows through the shaft into the countershaft via engaged gears. The shaft runs on front and rear bearings, feeds oil to needle bearings, and carries the hubs that allow synchronizers to match gear speeds for clean shifts.

What happens if it’s damaged ❗

Worn splines cause clutch chatter and slip. Pitted journals overheat bearings and create whine. Bent or scored shafts lead to hard shifts, gear pop-out, and metal shavings that contaminate the whole transmission. Ignoring it risks synchro failure, bearing collapse, and costly gearbox rebuild.

Pro tips

  • Replace bearings, seals, and synchro rings together
  • Set bearing preload to spec; use GL-4 gear oil
  • Inspect clutch disc hub for spline wear
