Rear differential mount cushion — purpose
This mount supports the rear differential and isolates it from the body. It keeps the unit centered, controls torque movement, and blocks noise and vibration. A healthy cushion protects the drivetrain and keeps take‑offs smooth, especially in powerful rear‑wheel‑drive luxury sedans.
How it works
The mount is a steel sleeve bonded to high‑grade elastomer. It sits between the differential housing and the subframe. Under load, the rubber flexes to absorb torsional shocks while holding the pinion angle stable. This reduces NVH, prevents harsh impacts, and maintains correct driveshaft and axle geometry.
Why it matters ️
Correct support lowers stress on gears, bearings, CV joints, and the prop shaft. It improves traction, shift quality, and overall ride comfort. Using an OEM‑grade durometer ensures long life and precise alignment.
When worn or broken
- Clunk or thud on take‑off, braking, or shifting
- Driveline vibration at cruise or under load
- Diff misalignment, fast U‑joint/CV wear
- Pinion seal strain and possible oil seep
- Jerky traction control, uneven tire wear
Install tips ️
Press the bushing square to the bore; align orientation marks. Torque bolts at ride height. Replace stretch bolts and related hardware as needed. After install, road‑test for quiet launches and verify driveline angles.
