Front Differential Lock Shift Fork for Toyota 4x4 βοΈ
Why this part is needed ?
This fork engages the front differential lock so both front wheels turn together. It is essential for rock, mud, snow, and steep climbs, giving your Land Cruiser maximum traction and steady control. Without it, the locker may not engage or release when you need it most.
How it works
Inside the front diff, the fork rides on a shift rail and slides a clutch sleeve over the side gear. The actuator (vacuum/electric/manual) moves the rail, the fork centers the sleeve, and the dog teeth lock the carrier. Precision lands and pads keep the sleeve aligned, while diff oil lubricates the fork and rails for smooth, positive engagement.
If the fork is worn or broken ?
Symptoms include blinking diff-lock light, no lock engagement, grinding under load, or the axle staying locked on pavement (binding on turns). Continued use can chew clutch teeth, stress the actuator, contaminate oil with metal, and damage ring and pinion. Replace at first signs of bent prongs, cracked pads, or heavy wear to protect the whole front end.
Tech tips ?
- Always change diff oil after failure
- Verify actuator travel and switch function
- Use new seals/gaskets on reassembly
