Why itβs needed
When off-road or towing, wheel slip wastes power and control. The actuator locks both axle shafts together so torque goes to the ground, improving grip, stability, and safety. It also reduces clutch burn and prevents undue drivetrain stress.
How it works
An electric motor with a reduction gear turns the selector shaft on the differential. The internal fork slides a dog clutch to lock the side gears. The control module reads switch inputs and position feedback, then illuminates the dash lamp when lock is confirmed. Seals and O-rings keep contaminants out. π§
If it fails
Common signs: flashing locker light, no engagement, clicking then release, stuck locked/unlocked, ABS/VSC warnings. Off-road youβll lose traction; on pavement a stuck lock can cause tyre scrub, axle wind-up, and ring gear stress. Water ingress and corrosion are typical causes. β
