Front Suspension Strut Bearing

Why you need it

This bearing sits at the top of a MacPherson strut and lets the strut turn smoothly with the steering while supporting the vehicle’s weight. It keeps steering light, precise, and quiet, protects the upper mount, and helps maintain correct alignment and even tire wear. Ideal for daily use and rough roads alike .

How it works

A sealed ring of steel balls or rollers sits between the spring seat and top mount. It carries axial and radial loads, allowing low-friction rotation as you steer. Quality sealing keeps out water and grit, so the steering returns to center, the spring doesn’t bind, and the strut moves freely.

When it’s worn or broken

Symptoms include heavy or notchy steering, clunks over bumps, creaks on turns, memory steer, and irregular tire wear. If it seizes, the spring twists instead of rotating, stressing the mount, cracking the seat, and can misalign the front end. Prolonged driving risks mount failure and noisy, unsafe handling ⚠️.

Tech tips

Replace in pairs, inspect the top mount, bump stop, and dust boot, and torque to spec. Perform a wheel alignment after installation for best results.
