J2-spec automatic transmission fluid, 4 L can
This OEM-grade ATF is made for select Mitsubishi automatic gearboxes that demand the J2 specification. It keeps clutch packs gripping correctly, cools hot parts, and carries hydraulic pressure so every shift is smooth and fast. Using the right spec is vital: the friction profile is tuned for these units to prevent slip, flare, or harsh shifts.
How it works βοΈ
Inside the transmission, this oil does three jobs at once. It lubricates gears, bearings, and the pump to cut wear. It cools by moving heat to the pan and cooler. And it acts as a hydraulic medium, driving pistons and valves in the valve body. Detergents keep passages clean, anti-foam keeps pressure stable, and friction modifiers control clutch engagement for seamless upshifts and downshifts.
Use and compatibility
For Mitsubishi automatics calling for J2. Check your ownerβs manual. Ideal for drain-and-fill service; most pans take about 4 L per cycle. Do not mix with CVT fluids or SP-III unless the manual allows it. Red color, stable viscosity, low pour point for cold starts.
Signs of old or wrong fluid β
- Delayed engagement or flare between gears
- Shudder at light throttle
- Burnt smell, dark color, metal dust on the pan magnet
- Overheating in traffic or while towing
If neglected
Expect clutch glazing, valve body sticking, torque converter wear, and pump damage. That can lead to limp mode and an expensive rebuild.
Service tips
- Warm to temp, drain, replace gasket and filter (if serviceable)
- Refill to level using dipstick or scan-tool temperature method
- Road-test, cycle all ranges, recheck level; keep it clean and dry
