Camshaft Position Sensor for Hyundai/KIA Engines βš™οΈ

This sensor is a key input for the engine computer. It is needed to track the exact camshaft angle so the ECU can time fuel injection and ignition correctly. When the signal is accurate, the engine starts faster, idles smoother, and keeps power delivery consistent.

How It Works ?

The sensor reads a trigger wheel/target on the camshaft and converts movement into an electrical pulse. The ECU compares this signal with the crankshaft sensor to identify cylinder position and valve timing. On modern systems, it also supports variable valve timing control.

What Happens If It Fails ❗

A weak or missing signal can cause hard starting, misfires, rough idle, loss of power, poor fuel economy, and a check engine light. In some cases the engine may stall or enter limp mode. Driving with a faulty sensor can also stress the catalytic converter due to unburned fuel.

Typical Symptoms

  • Intermittent no-start or long cranking
  • Jerking under acceleration
  • Unstable idle and random misfire codes
