Camshaft Position Sensor for Hyundai/Kia Engines βοΈ
This small but vital sensor tells the ECU exactly where the camshaft is at every moment. The engine needs this signal to time fuel injection and ignition correctly, especially during starting, idle, and quick acceleration. Without accurate cam timing feedback, modern Hyundai/Kia systems cannot keep performance smooth and emissions controlled.
How It Works ?
The sensor reads a trigger wheel or cam target as it spins and creates a precise electrical pulse. The ECU compares this pulse with the crankshaft signal to confirm cylinder position and adjust timing on the fly. This helps deliver clean starts, stable idle, and better fuel economy.
What Happens If It Fails ?
A weak or dead sensor can cause hard starting, stalling when hot, misfires, poor power, higher fuel use, and a check engine light. In some cases the engine may crank but not start, because the ECU cannot confirm the correct firing sequence. Driving with a faulty unit may also stress the catalytic converter due to unburned fuel.
